The fourth democratic election held in the history of Yurtyzstan will take place 1-5 May, one month from today.
The election will decide the composition of the 4th Supreme People's Assembly, which has been expanded to nine seats from five. Analysts expect the highest voting turnout in the nation's history, due to a citizenship boom during the Reunification period of late last year and to a shift to online voting using the BallotBin service. It will also be the first election in which capitalism advocates have cultivated a significant base of voters; the Yurtyzstani right gained in followers with the formation of the centre-right Prosperity for Yurtyzstan Coalition by revolutionary founder Yurt Kyong-yon last November.
As the election approaches, political parties and organisations are ramping up their campaigns. The PYC was the first to begin campaigning, with three of its candidates -- Po Er Kwa Deul, Yurt Kyong-yon, and Yurt Ma-shin -- embarking on cross-country speaking tours. (The itineraries are posted on the group's blog.) The PYC also reported on their blog that a series of pro-capitalist flyers would soon be posted and circulated in Yurtyzstan's major cities.
The Yurtyzstani Workers' Party also opened a website, on which Party Chairman Oon Em Pyo Iid will make weekly posts to supporters.
The election was initially intended to be held in mid-March, after the ratification of Yurtyzstan's second constitution, but this plan was scrapped by the Provisional Government, citing organisational delays and concerns over the new legislature having only a two-month term.
