Yurt Myaung-hye rapidly became one of Yurtyzstan's most prominent politicians by rising from mayor of Frontier Town, a position he had held since the Yurtyzstan-Longhouse War, to leader of the independent state of East Yurtyzstan last July; in that position he gained a reputation for efficiency and reliability by building a streamlined government and by commissioning numerous high-intensity public works projects, including the EYTC system. He was appointed to the Provisional Government when it was formed in September, and subsequently rose to national prominence as the body's primary spokesperson until the return of Yurt Kyong-yon to the national dialogue. Yurt Myaung-hye has further increased his appeal by casting himself as a technocrat; he studied literature at the National University of Yurtyzstan, and spent most of his life in Yurtyzstan working full-time at a state-run construction company.
Yurt Myaung-hye seems to be basing his campaign on moderacy. He has refused to align himself with any political party during the campaign, stating that "Yurtyzstan will need independents in the Assembly." He has also carefully maintained an open-ended, centrist economic position; while he cautiously supports private enterprise, he urges caution in implementing the reforms and supports the retention of much of the existing command economy. "Price controls, large welfare programmes, and other socialist ideas have served us well so far. We shouldn't get rid of them without considering it carefully," Dr. Yurt stated during the lecture.
