Chairman of the Presidium J.J. Hakimoto has set 17 March as a hard deadline for the beginning of the spring semester, after most of the nation's universities failed to open on 1 March.
Nearly all of Yurtyzstan's universities have been damaged by the winter storms that have battered the country this winter. Some universities are still in disrepair after the July 2012 government collapse; among them are the University of Dhintang, which will be primarily open-air when the semester starts. These difficulties prevented the universities from opening 1 October, which was a setback for Hakimoto's cultural development initiative.
Education has been emphasised as an important part of that initiative. Hakimoto, along with other Assembly leaders such as former Vice-Chairman Po Er Kwa Deul, have raised the possibility of a central regulating body or government-partnered consortium to standardise curricula and admissions procedures. Hakimoto has also identified education as a major factor in Yurtyzstan's transition to an idea economy.
